Quick Tip – How to Remove Bing

Dec 07 2009 Published by Sanjay under Uncategorized

Annoyed by this as much as I am? Started seeing Bing search results all of a sudden instead of your usual search engine?

You were given this search ‘tool’ after a recent Microsoft update.

Let’s reset this back to Google . . .

  • Go to My Computer and navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc
  • Locate and open the file “hosts”.   (use Notepad when asked what to open this file with)
  • Copy and paste the following two lines anywhere into that open file and save the file when done:

74.125.127.100 www.bing.com
74.125.127.100 bing.com

  • Presto – close your browser and open again, and you’ve been un-Binged!

i am using both Bing and Google and i think both search engines give relevant search results. i would still prefer Google though, because it gives a little bit more relevant search results than Bing.

Hi- agreed; I think Bing has some valid search results and offers some decent functionality . . . I just wasn’t thrilled with the way it foisted onto my PC!

BING search engine is just as good as Google. In my own personal experience, Google does give more releveant search result than Bing but the difference is very small. **

i am a user of Microsofts BING search engine and it is as good as google for static webpage search. for searching blogs, i think google gives more relevant search results compared bing.

    nOTEPAD Says,

! Cannot create the C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file.

Make sure that the path and file name are correct.

I Cant replace it either. The only other host file is for
    a yahoo calender import. help

  • Sanjay says:

Hi- do a ‘Save As’ with a similar filename in the same directory (ie, ‘hosts2′), then delete the original hosts file and rename the new one with the same name as the old (hosts)!

  • I use Bing and Google whenever i want to find something on the internet. I think that both search engines are very good. .

  • It is interesting to compare the performance of Bing and Google search but i haven’t seen any difference at all in their performance. ;

  • Jasmine Ward says:

i still frequently use Google despite the appearance and popularity of the Bing search engine;”~
